Remember LifeWhen you lived,
Rather than existed? When you had hopes and dreams That you persisted? When you smiled a real smile, Or laughed a real laugh? When you enjoyed good times With the friends that you had? When nothing else mattered But living your life When you gazed at the stars After day turned to night When you could say "I'm okay!", and you were telling the truth When you didn't scold yourself For having a sweet tooth When life was content Barely strife Do you? Do you remember life? You can live life again Don't ever think that you can't This is a wish that You, yourself, have to grant You need to stay strong Don't give in If you believe you can, In the end, you will win |
Remember Life is a poem that I made for Fight Anorexia in 2009, and I'm sorry if you can't relate to the message. I know that Anorexia can consume it's victim's mind as it dominates their lives. Many pleasant memories are pushed aside and replaced with thoughts about food and weight. What kind of memories has anorexia stolen from you? In this box of memories, not only can you find your old hopes and dreams, but you could find out what's at the heart of your ED if you haven't already.
Notice the World Around YouI find it true that some of the simplest things in life are the best, but they often go unnoticed. When we're so wrapped up in our issues, we often forget to stop and notice the beauty around us and within ourselves. The kinds of violence and death related stories that we hear about make us think that our world is cruel and always will be, but don't be fooled. One of the most beautiful things in life, in my opinion, is nature.
Look up at the gorgeous blue sky and fluffy white clouds; imagine yourself walking among a beach with a calm, clear blue ocean; listen to tree leaves rustle in gentle winds; listen to the sound of chirping birds on a sunny day, or during winter, watch snow flakes fall as they cover the ground beneath you; feel the warmth of the sun; gaze at the stars and moon as they illuminate the darkness of the night sky, or witness the many wonderful lights that brighten up a city at night (that's not apart of nature but I still love it!). These are some of the things in the world that speak to my heart, what speaks to yours? |
